Torah Pearls – Metzora – Leviticus 14:1-15:33 – Nehemia Gordon & Keith Johnson

In this program, we wrap up the subject of leprosy and summarize the laws regarding bodily discharges. While we did attempt to abide by our G rating, a more detailed explanation of the topic of Niddah from Leviticus 15 with Nehemia can be found by clicking here.

If you cover your mouth with a medical grade surgical mask it might help to stop the progression of the flu. Just saying.

Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. – Exodus 29:20

And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed , and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: – Leviticus 14:14

Could it be that the blood upon the right ear, thumb, and toe is done by the priest to consecrate that person back to Y’Hovah so they can go back to serving them after they are clear?

While I didn’t grow up in the environment that Keith did… I don’t see the rationale with denigrating women during their menstrual cycle. In reality – a man can naturally be “unclean” from his bodily functions than a woman could.
On the flip side – I don’t think we should get away from that reality that anything dealing with the reproductive cycle – even in marriage is not as God originally intended and is therefore a symbol of our separation from Him. It is the same with anything that deals with death. A person can become unclean without actually committing a rebellious act – it is without question that uncleanness is a reminder to us of what was lost in the Garden of Eden. I’ve never met a woman who actually enjoyed her menstrual cycle… and likewise a man who is really in love with his wife does not want to have to be separated for her (and actually feels empathetic). It’s God’s instruction and we should learn from it and not sugar coat it though.
On a flip side as a man who loves to grow things – I’m reminded of Adam’s punishment every time I have to fight against weeds and thorns and thistles… or as was related to me by an older relative – how our family lands (where we originate from) have not fully recovered from hurricanes which took place years ago. I don’t have to grow to survive as my grandparents generation did – but I love to do it as a “hobby”. I am deeply saddened when any plant dies… but that was also a part of our punishment from Adam and Eve. Instead of causing oppression and angst – all of these things should spur us to be as obedient as we can – to restore even just a tiny piece of the Paradise that existed – and will ultimately come again.
