Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these…the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. – Leviticus 11:3-5

This is a small portion of a much larger recording on a trek with Nehemia through David’s Wadi in the Ein Gedi Reserve of the Judean Desert. It seemed appropriate to release this snippet with the Torah Portion, Shemini. What do you think, is he a cute and adorable little fur ball like Nehemia says, or does he look more like a giant rat?
