Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And Yehovah said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of Yehovah came upon David from that day forward. – 1 Samuel 16:12-13

    “for man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart” Samuel 16:7

    What I find funny is that many of God’s chosen turn out to be…handsome in the sight of mankind: David was ruddy and handsome, Joseph (son of Jacob) was handsome, Moses was a beautiful child and therefore his parents saved his life, Sarah was so beautiful that Abimelech wanted to have her, same for Rebekah, Esther had the chance to save her people thanks to her beauty, BathSheba became the mother of the future king of Judah loved by God, Daniel was chosen among youth of handsome appearance and quick understanding. These are among key figures in God’s plan for mankind. Isn’t it funny?

    Name: Shammah (Hebrew)
    Meaning: Astonishment.

    Shammah is pronounced sham-maw’.

    Shammah is the name of five men in the Bible.

    Shammah was the son of Reuel and grandson of Esau. He was the chief of a Edomite tribe.

    Shammah was the third son of Jesse and brother of David. He is also called Shimea, Shimea and Shimma in the Bible.

    Three of the mighty warriors in David’s army were named Shammah.

    Biblical reference for baby name Shammah:
    Genesis 36:13,17; 1 Samuel 16:9; 17:13; 2 Samuel 23:11, 25, 33, 37; 1 Chronicles 1:37;

    I only partially agree with Yoel, that David’s handsomeness meant that he looked ‘boyish’. Maybe at that time he was only a lad and looked ‘boyish’, but I think David grew up to be a handsome man. His son Absalom was so handsome that noone could find find any blemish in him form the sole of is feet to the top of his head, and every year he had to cut his hair because they weighted so much. Same holds for David’s daughter Tamar, whose beauty hit her brother Amnon to the point that he became sick. I believe that David was handsome and produced handsome offspring.

    I only recently (Aug. 2016) discovered this site–better late than never! I love the teachings in Samuel, as well as the other discussions between Jono and Yoel. You both approach the Scriptures in a professional manner, and share with your listeners in a way easily understood. I also appreciate the Links you provide to a variety of other speakers, some of which I’m already familiar with. Blessings on your continuing work to get the message out to those who seek Truth and a deeper understanding of the Commandments and Lessons from the Tanakh. (I guess the little Prince is a big boy now. I’ve enjoyed Yoel sharing him with us. 😘💕) Thanks guys!
