I tend to be a literalist also. Here is a thought, Let there be light, doesn’t mean light in the wavelength we can see. Or it was like temporary light, like we use in construction when building a house.

Orthodox christianity has a history of burning people up at the stake and none are still burning to my knowledge. This must be so disappointing for some. The question arises, if God is mad at them and sends them to hell to burn forever, would He not have to nurse His rage forever also? Psa. 30:5 His anger is but for a moment. Psa.103:9 nor will He keep His anger forever. Jer. 3:12 He will not keep his anger forever. The false idea of man having an immortal soul is the basis of the eternal burning doctrine.

Thank you for posting this & your comment that whatever you believe (oldyoung earth) shouldn’t effect your relationship with the Creator! Amen!

Excellent! Thank you Jono and Nehemia. I am more of a literalist also – but I can agree; it does not effect my relationship with my El!

Owen, please consider learning to read the Hebrew bible for your self. It Is a skill and will keep you mentally stimulated through out your life..since energy is neither created or destroyed but changes form this gives viability to immortality. see http://www.icr.org/law-conservation/. Science is always confirmed by The Holy Scriptures. Historically It is not “Orthodox Christianity” that burns up people but the Roman Catholic church and they seem to be proud of it. if you equate these two organizations using the two names interchangeably
i can agree. as always dont get sidetracked and let anything interfere with your relationship with your heavenly Father- hold that most precious. It is Well worth doing.

The literal six day creation is what upholds and supports the seventh day Sabbath. The seven day week was imbedded in creation..

  7. Zachary Bauer says

Exodus 20:11 For in SIX DAYS YHVH made heaven and earth, the sea, AND ALL that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHVH blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Here’s a take I’d like your comments on:
God created [bara] the heavens, (also known as the physical universe) and the earth. The universe is not just space, but “space-time,” the little bubble of tzimtzum carved out of eternity. If there is no time in eternity, then the answer to the question, “when did God create the earth?” is God always created/creates the heaven and the earth.
It came to pass that the earth became unformed and empty. (How? I don’t know.) So, God takes a work-week, starting one day (not the “first”), and rebuilds [… ki sheshet yamin asa YHVH…]. Animals then humans were created, formed and made, but whatever materials the Creator used to rebuild existed from before the earth came to be unformed.
