I hate that I have to say I couldn’t even get through this whole episode… With all due respect to Tovia, he needs to stop spitting on other people with other opinions then him and belittling them as if what he’s saying is so apparent and true. I come from an orthodox background where all this is discussed and I followed it for over 20 years but that doesn’t mean it’s not flawed… Just because you refer the first day day of Chag Hamtzot as a day of rest (even though it’s not refererred to a Shabbat once in the Torah) does not mean that is the day you start counting from. Just because that fits your point, doesn’t mean you can ignore other sections of the Torah where it doesn’t and go around screaming it’s obvious by pointing to one questionable section…“And you shall count from the morrow of the Sabbath from the day you bring the Omer [sheaf] of waving; seven complete Sabbaths shall you count… until the morrow of the seventh Sabbath shall you count fifty days… and you shall proclaim on this very day, it shall be a holy convocation for you.” (Vayikra 23:15-16,21). You point to the first shabbat but ignore the seventh and all others completely. In all 97 minutes it isn’t mentioned once. Maybe because your arguement falls apart from it. You can’t have the 50th day be after the 7th shabbat if you don’t start after the first 7th day shabbat. I’m all for differing opinions, that’s why I listen to everyone, but to belittle others and spit on them as if they’re opinion is dust in the wind… I don’t know, i found the discourse unpleasant to say the least.
