Gleanings From Genesis – YHVH, the Name of the Creator – Dr James Tabor & Ross Nichols – Episode #5

In episode five, the discussion begins with an explanation of textual divisions transmitted by the hands of ancient scribes before the introduction of chapters and verses into the texts. Genesis 2:4 is the beginning of the second division, the subject of which is the “bringing forth of the skies and the land.” A central point of the conversation in this episode is the name of the Elohim and an introduction to a creation account that describes events from the ground up. Why have you gotten away from the ancient idea of a firmament, raqyia, (crystal sphere)? Just because we can’t explain such a thing today does not mean it is incorrect. If the water above the firmament collapsed causing the Flood the firmament would not be in place today.
