Does Moses support the expectation of a Messiah? – Jono & Ross

Why is there so much focus on a Messiah in Judaism and Christianity? Jono and Ross take these questions on from the texts of the Hebrew Bible. The discussion covers the meaning of the term Messiah, usages in the Tanakh, the Bible’s first allusion to a messiah, the concept of the messiah in Torah, the sudden and obvious shift in the concept once one leaves the Torah, the King in the Tanakh, and MUCH more. Thanks for the question Travis!

Is G-ds revelation limited to written text? Much of modern Judaism is rabbinic , not biblical.

Moses wrote a Torah, a scroll, and gave it to Levites,Joshua copied it, Ssamuel wrote in it…but by and large the authority of the sacred text began with josuahs reform. So while Moses Torah had authority,, the words of the prophet did as well….

Are the words only important if written? The messianic expectation of a future King implies restoration of davidic monarchy. This expectation of a king seems very much correlated and connected to the time such was written.

The world to come? olam ha-ba the “world to come”, עולם הבא in Hebrew. Is there a world to come for us according to the Hebrew Bible? Or will be be non existant when we die? The Christian Bible says there is “eternal life” but what does the Torah say about our lives?
