Does Jeremiah Dispel the Theory of Lost Text in the Shapira Scroll? – Jono Vandor
The consensus among Shapiraologists is that Fragment F of the Shapira Scroll consisted of four columns, the first of which contained sparsely discernable letters. In comparison, the latter three columns contained no discernible letters and thus were regarded as lost text. This paper considers the possibility that Fragment F, column a, connects directly with Fragment G, dispelling the suggestion of lost material. To support this hypothesis, this paper will cite Jeremiah 32:39, an unrepresented verse in the juxtaposed canonical text sequence of Guthe and the biblical intertexts identified by Dershowitz. Jeremiah quotes a phrase from the Moses Scroll verbatim in this verse, represented with variation in Deuteronomy 5:26.
