Was the Menorah that was carried away by Roman soldiers in 70CE, as depicted on the Arch of Titus, the Menorah of the Hanukkah story, the very Menorah that replaced the one that Antiochus IV Epiphanies smashed to pieces in 167BCE? Did the Romans smash this one also? If not, then where is it today? Discussions such as these, as well as the ever-present problem of assimilation, arose from our visit to the Diaspora Museum at the Tel Aviv University where we began our tour of Israel.
